Appearance
Bright scarlet red.
Nose
Ripe cherries and plums, and sweet vanilla. Slight herbaceousness, and hints of cigar box aromas.
Palate
Light to medium body. Plums and ripe dark fruit (cherries and blackberries), dried figs, with vanilla notes and good soft tannins. Some sweet cigar-like tobacco notes, and damp river stone minerality. Little acidity.
Overall
Packed with ripe fruit, despite the lightish mouth-feel. Somewhat lacking in acidity, which makes for a slightly sweet impression. However, there is a good backbone of alcohol (13.8%), and surprisingly fine, powdery tannins. Combined with the oaky complexities, this makes for a thoroughly enjoyable glass for only a few pesos more than the median in this price range.
