Appearance
Dark, deep ruby red.
Nose
Bright red fruit - red currants, cherries - with marzipan and liquorice.
Palate
Medium bodied. Bright, with fresh but well balanced-acidity. Red currants and cherries dominate, with strong liquorice or sweet dried black olive characters. Tannins are soft and mild but provide reasonable structure and length.
Overall
Slightly atypical Cabernet Sauvignon, or at least running counter to the dominant style of the varietal's expression in the current market - few hints of black currant (cassis) or green herbs. While the oak has clearly contributed to both the nose and palate, wood characters themselves are not present, and neither does the wine have a spicy character. Nevertheless, a very well balanced, pleasant and interesting wine at a very reasonable price.
