Appearance
Deep, dark ruby red.
Nose
Cherries, plums, a hint of vanilla.
Palate
Medium bodied with plums, cherries, and blackcurrants; however the fruit lacks depth and intensity. Good acid balance and nice fine tannic structure. Savoury notes, black pepper and tingly tobacco, as well as a restrained touch of vanilla.
Overall
This Terrazas feels slightly restrained - the fruit is fairly austere, and it lacks a substantial finish. It is clearly finely crafted, but it seems to have been crafted to deliberately accentuate the step up to the bodega's 'Reserva' rather than drawing out the best the fruit has to offer. The result is a solid, savoury, but unexciting wine that doesn't quite deliver for the money.
