Appearance
Clear, bright silver with golden-green hues.
Nose
Pears and peaches, sweet pawpaw and hints of lime and butterscotch.
Palate
Medium-bodied. Sticky orchard and tropical fruits with a honey-like sweetness. Insufficient acidity to balance, and a consequently short finish.
Overall
The best Torrontés comes from Cafayate up in Salta province, where it is grown at around 1600 metres above sea level. Valle de Uco is generally sitting at around 1100 metres, and while the thermal amplitude is impressive Torrontés grown here still fails to develop the floral characters and acid complexity that can make it special. Instead the fruit presented here is simply ripe, and the resulting wine, while not unpleasant nor horrendously overpriced, is disappointingly unbalanced.
