Appearance
Clear, deep ruby red with violet hues.
Nose
Bright, fresh fruit - predominant red and black currants - with a spicy edge.
Palate
Medium bodied. Bright and fresh-tasting redcurrants and cassis, true to the nose but surprising given the extensive oak aging. Fine, soft tannins reflect 14 months in French oak barriques. Oak and age also lend gamey complexities and gentle spiciness, a slight minerality, and notes of vanilla. Good acidity and structure through the finish.
Overall
A well-balanced, interesting Cabernet. Surprisingly bright considering the oak-aging - less dense and jammy than you might expect - but by no means a young-tasting wine. Interesting and complex for drinking right now; but with a few more years in the bottle, the acidity should ease just a touch, the fruit mature a bit more, and deliver a beautifully integrated and complex wine.
