Appearance
Deep, dark violet red.
Nose
Raspberries, cherries, with hints of cinnamon and vanilla.
Palate
Medium body. Taut structure with chewy tannins. Good fresh acidity. Fresh red cherries and intense black pepper spiciness. Green capsicum and black olive herbal characters, and some cigar-box wood notes.
Overall
An aggressive mouthful, complex and tightly structured if slightly lacking in varietal fruit characters. This may change with another couple of years in the bottle - once the tannins recede and the acid mellows a little, they may reveal more integrated fruit and an even more complex whole. In which case this will be an absolute stonker. It would be worth putting down two or three bottles to find out - at this price, it's well worth the chance.
