Appearance
Bright clear scarlet red.
Nose
Rich tertiary aromas of toffee, coffee and pencil shavings overlay fruit jams - raspberries, plums. A trace of clean minerality.
Palate
Medium bodied. Good fruit expression, fine tannins and a mild but well-balanced acidity. Loads of sweet, caramel oak characters on the palate reflect the aromas. Soft and supple mouthfeel.
Overall
El Galgo is a second line of wine produced at the small boutique French-run Maipú bodega Carinae. Technically not a Carinae wine, as the label is the work of the Carinae owner/winemaker's brother-in-law. 15 months in first use French oak accounts for the softness of the wine, the dense oaky characteristics, and also the price tag - which is by no means unfair for a wine of this quality.
