Cabernet Sauvignon
2005
San Juan
AR$6 (US$2)
Appearance
Clear ruby red with violet tones.
Nose
Red cherries, raspberries.
Palate
Light to medium body, with a warm, round initial mouthfeel. Cherries on the palate, framed by some mild tannins which are pleasantly drying on the finish. Slightly tart acidity gives the fruit a thin feel, possibly due to the lowish 13% alcohol.
Overall
There's not much happening in this Cabernet Sauvignon, which could perhaps best be summed up as inoffensive (not to mention outrageously cheap). There's no obvious oak influence, but then the wine is retailing at about the price of a decent cork so it's what you would expect. For a wine to enjoy with a sit down dinner I'd spend the extra couple of pesos for something better, but that said, it's good, drinkable, summer barbeque fare where the tinto needs to keep flowing at a sensible price.
