Appearance
Clear, bright pale silver with greenish hues.
Nose
Passionfruit and rock melon, with citrus (lime and grapefruit) notes. A slightly musky background intensity.
Palate
Light to medium bodied. Passionfruit and melon on the palate, but drenched in lime and grapefruit that moves just beyond fresh and into mouth-suckingly citric.
Overall
There are not many Fumés on the market in Argentina (being a Sauvignon that has been fermented in oak), and while Chakana's intent is admirable this is just too acid. Perhaps the hope was that the oak would mellow fruit that was harvested with slightly lower sugars than would otherwise have been preferred - but it didn't, at least not enough. Shame - the nose is enticing and the oak definitely lends an exciting character to the aroma. Perhaps the 2007 will justify the price.
