Melipal Malbec 2004
Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza
Bright, clear scarlet with some violet hues.
Dense and concentrated with cherries, plums, coffee, and marzipan. A slight green-pepper fresh herbaceousness.
Medium bodied, with concentrated sweet ripe black plums and cherries. Robust, chewy tannins and spicy black pepper, coffee and crisp green capsicum. Excellent clean acid finish of good duration.
Bursting with spicy fruit, acids and tannins, and enough complexity to keep things interesting, this is an excellent choice in its price bracket. Not quite the world-beater that is the Reserva, but for a third of the price, it's a pretty good substitute.
